Traveling to Greece
Tips for the American Traveler.
So you want to travel to the land of dreams? Congratulations you are about to embark on a journey like never before. However there are certain things you should be prepared for before embarking on any long trip. The first thing I can suggest the night before is not to get a great sleep. Now I know your wondering why? Because the trans-continental flight across those waters last a long time. And let's face it planes get uncomfortable, so therefore I suggest that you get as little sleep as possible. Getting a little amount of sleep will help you pass what can be an uncomfortable trip by sleeping through most of it. Arrive at the airport at least three hours before travel. Things must be checked to get to the plane, and international flights can take longer to get through to than domestic flights. Drink lots of water before the trip and hydrate yourself so your prepared for what could be a extremely lower climate than one that you could be used to.
Let's discuss some things you will need ahead of time. Some of the things you're going to need for your trips are things you must have close to you at all times. The first thing I'm going to say naturally is your passport, this is the first document that you need to ensure that you have with you at all times. The next thing I would take is your state id, why take two photo id's? Because that state id can help if you lose the other. Also note that you maybe could also carry a birth certificate to help prove identity and citizenship in a certain country. I would keep these things in separate bags, so that you can be sure that if your wallet gets lifted (more on that later) or if a bag gets lost you have multiple articles of identification.
Let's talk about money. The euro is big over there. One headache you can save yourself is to convert your money before leaving. This helps in a dramatic way and adds time to do fun things before flying over. The next thing I want to discuss is travelers checks. If you can get these before leaving DO SO, this will secure your money, should you be robbed or something happens, and face it we all go places and we never expect something to happen, but we can be robbed in our own home. So its really important to secure your money abroad, criminals target travelers, so get travelers checks if you can. If you lose or if your travelers checks get stolen they get replaced by the company by free. The last tip is how you carry your money. A lot of people carry their money in wallets and purses, and you know what , criminals train themselves to target those items. So get you one of the money purses you can put underneath your pants or dress, while it may look awkward when getting money out, it will save you the heart ache of being pickpocketed.
