Thessaloniki...
The City of Art and Passion

Thessaloniki was the capital of the Macedonian empire. So if you've ever watched Alexander the movie, you can see where his campaign started from. This place has a reputation for being supremely luxurious and well cultured. This place is the birthplace of much of Greece's culture. The bars and restaurants boast great food, good times and lavish accommodations. I would strongly suggest this place to anyone visiting Greece. Just to give you a background of this great city, this city was founded in three sixteen BC by the ruler Kassandros who named the city after his wife, Thessaloniki the half sister of Alexander the great. Once again, there you go, if you're a fan of the movie you will love this city! This is also well known as the place where the Apostle Paul just brought the gospel for the very first time. In the 15th century this place became a haven for Jews who were forced from Spain in exile. In 1913 it became an official part of Greece as It is known today.

So enough about the past. I'm a history buff so I could go on and on about the past. But let's talk about the here and now and why you will want to visit this place. It's probably the art capital of all Greece. This is my assumption and my opinion but I think that after you visit this place you will see that as well. There are a lot of star class hotels here so staying here directly is a good option and a good alternative to staying in Athens which so many people go for. There are lots of taverns and a mixture of bars where people can come and go next to lavish and extravagant hotels. There is a feel of the old here as well, as you can go to the neighborhoods of Kastra, where time seems to warp into another place. A quiet place of a time that's past, you can see children running in the streets and people living in awesome simplicity.

Thessaloniki has a lot of things to share and a lot of events going on. There is a film festival which frequents the town, so if you're a movie director, writer or actor you have a perfect excuse to come right there. There's also the Greek Song Festival if your one that is into traditional Greek and folk music. There are some awesome beaches nearby, again as I've stated this is a comparable spot to Athens, a place where you can find all your looking for in one great locale. There's a huge amount of shopping here, a you just walk down the streets you will find a wide variety of shops. From clothing to Greek pastries and eateries, this place has what every good shopper is looking for. So no matter what you've come for, this place is an awesome alternative from Athens, check it out today!
